The White House

In a move to better align themselves with the gay/lesbian community, the Obama Administration’s Office of Public Engagement has added a new web page to the WhiteHouse web site.  Entitled, “Winning the Future for LGBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Americans, the website was initiated to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month.  Mr. Obama, pre-election, had made the gay community one of his primary target areas for establishing greater awareness of this segment of the voters and community.  On June 22, 2010, President Obama stated, “we’ve have a lot of hard work that we still need to do, but we can already point to extraordinary progress that we have made…on behalf of Americans who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender.” The web site, which is managed by Brian Bond, Deputy Director of the Office of Public Engagement, stated, “Since taking office, the President has demonstrated that his vision for a brighter future includes greater equality for LGBT Americans. The President and his Administration are dedicated to eliminating barriers to equality, fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and engaging LGBT  community across the country.” The President also issued a proclamation declaring June as LGBT Pride month.
