Sexual Assaults Rising At U.S. Military Academies
(Washington, DC) – Sexual assaults appear to be on the rise at U.S. military academies. A new report from the Defense Department says accounts of sexual assault increased by nearly 60-percent during the 2010-2011 academic program year. The Defense Department isn’t able to cite definitive causes for the rise in assaults. However, the report says efforts by the academies to encourage victims to speak up about such incidents could play a role in the increase of cases.
