At Least Four Mount Everest Climbers Dead
(Kathmandu, Nepal) – At least four people are now dead after coming down the southern slope of Mount Everest. The victims are identified as a 61-year-old German medical doctor, a Canadian woman and a man from South Korea and a man from China. An official with the group Asian Trekking says the climbers likely became weak while descending from the 29-thousand-foot summit of the world’s highest peak and developed altitude sickness. He said the doctor died of high-altitude cerebral edema, a severe and often fatal form of altitude sickness. The four deaths bring the number of people killed on Everest this year to six.
