Obama Congratulates Egypt’s New President-Elect
(Washington, DC) – President Obama is congratulating Egypt’s new
President-elect, Mohamed Morsi. Obama called Morsi yesterday to
congratulate him on becoming Egypt’s first-ever freely elected
president. Obama also placed a call to Morsi’s rival Ahmed Shafik to
urge him to remain active in Egyptian politics in spite of his defeat.
Obama underscored his interest in continuing to work with all
political groups in Egypt as the nation transitions to democracy.
