NYC Health Board Approves Super-Sized Soda Ban
(New York, NY) – The soft drink industry is gearing up for legal and legislative action after health officials approved a ban on the sale of sugary drinks over 16 ounces at restaurants and concession stands in New York City. The New York City Board of Health approved Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan with eight in favor and one in abstention to ban super-size soft drinks in the city yesterday. Bloomberg called for the ban as part of his ongoing effort to combat obesity. The ban is expected to take effect in March.
