THE BIBLE – A Commentary?

You can’t believe everything you read, hear or see… It all started last night, I knew it was coming, but I had to check the Entertainer section of The Albuquerque Journal to see what number was The History Channel and what time this ‘Epic Television Event of 2013‘ was going to be on. After tuning into channel 46, I had to do some good old fashioned flipping to find it on channel 48. I often wrestle with having a critical spirit and my wife, Juliet lets me know it, when I don’t catch it on my own.
How do you start THE BIBLE with Noah? Great visuals, but never in The Word Of God does it tell us that Noah at any time was able to leave the ark, until after it rested on Mount Ararat and the waters subsided, yet we see him ‘on deck’ surveying the land, oh, I’m sorry, the water. Sure, we know they’re not quoting The Bible, as they already let us know ‘In The Beginning’ of the film, but let’s at least accept the fact that God probably told His Story or as Michael Jackson put it, HIStory, in the order He wanted it. And what’s with the television industry rating THE BIBLE TV-14, with a V for violence? That would mean, Jesus at age 12, when he was knocking the scribes off their seats with His tremendous Wisdom of The Word, would not have been able to watch His Story without parental concent or Josiah, who became The King Of Israel at age 8 and brought the greatest revival of that time to the nation!
Yes, there have been countless bible based movies made over the years and stories galore written. One in particular that got my goat was Richard Gere, playing King David, where he runs frantically away from Goliath, while kicking up dust and throwing rocks, hoping to feign off the giant, but then again, what do you expect from a Buddhist, attempting to act like a man after God’s own heart? In THE (REAL) BIBLE, Sarah did NOT tell Abraham to decide or let God decide, about what he should do with Hagar & Ishmael, after their promised son Isaac was born and while I’m on this topic, what’s with the lamb, when The Bible tells us a ram was caught in the thicket, hence the rams horn or the shofar, which sounds the alarm and calls us to battle.
Several years ago, The Church Of Christ came out with a Bible distributing campaign and the slogan was, ‘THE BIBLE, READ IT FOR YOUR-SELF!’ Paul the Apostle told Timothy, ‘ALL Scripture Is God Breathed,’ so we should treat It as such. Many Bible commentaries have been written and most are helpful, but ultimately, we have God’s Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into ALL Truth & Understanding. I will leave the subject of Christian Mingle and the Catholic Church advertisements up to others.

I agree with you. So many liberties on something that the true church tries so hard to keep true. I was afraid this would be the case but was hoping for it to hold to the truth of God’s Word. There were so many other situations that you didn’t mention too – like when Lot took leadership and told Abraham that he and his family were going to leave and go to Sodom in the East. It was Abraham that came to Lot in order to solve the problem of strife between them in sharing the land. He told Lot to choose which way he would go and Abraham would go the other way. A small thing? Maybe. But in the context of scripture, it makes a huge difference. The entire production was very disjointed. Leaving out huge gaps of scripture at least needed to be filled in with the story in between. How do you leave out such important parts of history such as the covenant God made with Noah after they can finally exit the ark to dry land, or the Tower of Babel, or Moses having a wife? I wonder how anyone who doesn’t know the Bible would be compelled to watch beyond the first few minutes because it was confusing and incomplete. No, I don’t expect anyone to be able to put the entire Bible completely into a miniseries of five weeks, but at least tell the complete and correct stories of the accounts that are included. So disappointed.

I was Hoping against Hope that Finally a Real Depiction of: The Bible would be Told/Shown…But Unfortunately, what We Got from: Roma and Mark was Nothing More Than…The MEL-GIBSON-IZED Version of Hollyweird’s Attempt at Proving to The Un-Christian and Luke- Warm Christian World, that God and His Word can once again be Trifled With. There were many parts of the Biblical/Scriptural Story Lines that were not included in the movie. Leaving even an inquisitive Sunday Schooled mind to wonder…Isn’t there something missing here?
They selectively omitted the Story of God’s Magnificent Act of Creation, leaving it to be told via some ridiculous Visions; which no doubtedly, were brought on by some kind of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Flashbacks being had by Noah! Was Noah old enough to be an Eyewitness to Creation? There were also unexplainable/strange non-Scriptural conversations betwixt Abraham and Sarah (also Sarah was not represented as “Beautiful” as written in Scripture…the actress was Homely/Mousey and Not pretty at all) concerning Hagar, and also Abraham’s decision to have an Heir with her…This was definitely Not part of God’s Plan or Will…Due to Abraham’s Sin of Disobedience and Lack of Trust and Faith in God to Provide an Heir with his wife Sarah…We now have the 12 Tribes of Ishmael, World Wide Fanatical Islam and Hamas which in Hebrew means: Terror!
Hence…God’s Testing of Abraham’s Faith and Trust by having him to sacrifice his only son Isaac, who is Entitled to The Abrahamic Covenant – Blessing and Birthright. Once Abraham proclaims that: “God Himself will Provide a Lamb” (Prophetically Speaking to us that: Yeshua/Jesus is The Perfect Lamb of God who will take away the Sin of the entire World), the testing of Abraham is accomplished to God’s satisfaction.
So…Where was the Ram in this movie? Its Absence provides us with yet another Scriptural mistake. The Ram was God’s choice for this sacrifice because…it was caught by its horns in the thicket, making sure that it remained Unblemished. A Lamb has no Horn of Salvation…Until Yeshua/Jesus Himself becomes: The Horn of Salvation and The Perfect and Final Sacrificed Lamb of God. We never hear Abraham say that he calls the place of Sacrifice: “Hashem Yireh” Hebrew meaning: The Place/Mountain Where God Will Provide! Which is today Mount Moriyyah (Moriah), Located in: Jerusalem, Israel; it is the Holiest Site in Judaism and Christianity. (Bereshis/Genesis 22:1-14, NIV). [Islam and its false gods: allah and mohammed, came along in 732 AD/CE and Falsely claimed Mt. Moriyyah as its very own, to infuriate and displace The Jews. Islam’s most holy place of worship is Mecca, located in Saudi Arabia].
Another great story of: How Jacob’s beloved/favored son Joseph was sold into Slavery by his own Brothers; then rises by The Hand of God…above false accusations and a prison cell to become the most Powerful man in Egypt next to Pharoah. Joseph is Governor over All of the Egyptian Empire…which will ultimately tell us how The Nation of Israel also become Slaves for 400 Years…Until Moses a former (Hebrew) and prince of Egypt, becomes their “savior” sent by God to return to Egypt-Land to command Pharoah: “Let My People GO!” Another Strange Omission is: the Full Story of The Passover…Namely, The significance of the Passover Meal: which is extremely important as it points us directly to Yeshua/Jesus The Messiah as The Perfect/Unblemished, Final Sacrificed Lamb for our Sins; and His Last Supper – Passover Meal, during which He institutes The New Covenant and Holy Communion…The Ultimate Meal of Healing, Forgiveness and Complete Restoration.
There are also smaller nuances that caught my eye as well…The “Red Sea”…Wrong! It is actually…The Reed Sea. Oops there goes another Mistranslation again! The Israelites Cross over the: Reed Sea, at the Gulf of Aqaba, and walk into Moses’ hometown and country: Midian…Look, what a little investigative analysis can do!

Why was Joshua Bar (Son of) Nun wearing a Roman Breast Plate? One would think, it should behoove the producers to do a little research and authenticate the Costumes to their specific time periods? What happened? They must have actually trusted in their Biblical/Scriptural Advisor: Rick Warren! A Blatant Emergent Church Cult Leader…who speaks with a Forked Blasphemous and Treasonous Tongue against: God, Yeshua, Ruach HaKodesh/Holy Spirit, God’s prophets and Israel!
I think that Mark and Roma could have done a lot better in selecting/hiring their Biblical, Scriptural and Archaeological Advisors…They could have hired the Newly Retired…Old Pope Benny Ratszinger…At the very least He would have had a little more integrity and could have done a much better job!
And then there were the…History Chanel’s Commercials! Unbelievable!
